1) The article talks about how the cowboy surprisingly beat the giants in the season opener. It talked about how Tony Romo had one of the best games of his career, and yet he was still not the top story line. It talked about how DeMarco Murray had 131yards and averaged 6.6 yards per carry. The super bowl camp, the giants, were the team that was expected to win but the, who have not been so good over the last few years, came out on top.
2) This particular article relates to the Lincoln death and the beginning of reconstruction. It relates to the beginning of reconstruction because reconstruction was just beginning, the article is about the first game of the NFL 2012-2013 season. The article also relates to Lincolns death because the title of the article is Cowboys start season off with a bang. Lincoln was killed at the beginning of reconstruction when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, who shot him in the back of the head with a gun. The reconstruction literally started with a bang and the cowboys season opener started with a metaphorical bang
The article link I posted previously talks about the NFL's decision to push back the trade deadlines. I personally am quite happy with this idea. Mainly because of the fact that this gives more time for last minute trades which can hopefully lead to a good football season. I'd like to see a powerhouse type team form somewhat like what happened in ths NBA when the Miami Heat got D.Wayde, Lebron, and everyone expected them to have the championship in the bag. This relates to history because it could possibly change the outcome of this season so imagine if an election campaign went on longer then usual, it could give more time for voters opinions to change which could have lead to a different president altering our nations history and future outcome. -Shawn M
1)Cherie Buckner Webb is an African American woman who grew up in Boise, Idaho. She woke up one morning to a burned wood cross in her yard. It was placed there by a local hate group. Cherie’s mom is a devoted civil rights activist. She responded to the situation by saying “We have lived here almost a year, what took them so long.” They both decided to display the burned cross on their porch to show their bravery. This outward demonstration of hate motivated Cherie Webb toward human rights. Cherie became the first African American woman state legislature for Boise, Idaho. Ongoing attacks like the burned cross happened to her during Cherie’s campaign. Signs were made that read harsh words such as, “die b****…KKK grandmaster.
2) This article about Cherrie Webb relates to the KKK. The KKK was a group that formed during the reconstruction period (1865-1877). It was a secret “gang” that mainly consisted of ex confederate soldiers. The main purpose of the gang was to keep African Americans powerless and to control elections. They would harm other races in violent ways, such as whipping and lynching. The people that put the burned cross in Cherie’s yard relates to the KKK. They didn’t like the idea of having an African American women being able to run for state legislature.
Last fall a small community near Bergholz, Ohio had been terrorized which spread fear throughout the Amish, in EAstern Ohio. The domineering leader of this renegade Amish Sect, Samuel Mullet Sr. and one of his followers were convicted of hate crimes and federal conspiracy ths past Thursday September 20th, Mullet was concidered more of a mastermind behind the attacks. His followers would invade specific homes, attack the people inside and shear their beards and hair. The attacks were brought on by religious differences. They took matters into their own hands. Alough the severity of Mullet and his followers actions, the attacks, were not quite as serevere as the KKK, a group of former confederate soldiers, this is what comes to mind for relating to something we are talking about. The KKK is a cult, which started forming during the reconstruction of the South along with Freedmen, that has certain beliefs and ideas. They did what they felt had to be done to help control. They would invade peoples houses and attack, along with many other forms of attack. The KKK was a much high level cult meaning. Their actions were more severe then the ones done by Mullet and his followers. They both were and are groups that took matters into their own hands because of their beliefs.
September 15th through October 15th is recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Week was originally approved by President Johnson in 1968 and was expanded to cover 30 days by President Reagan in 1988. The month of September was selected because many Latin American countries as well as Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days in September. Columbus Day is celebrated yearly on the second Monday of October which is also in this timeframe. Many communities, corporations and other organizations celebrate diversity and the influence the Hispanic culture has had on the United States.
The Hispanic culture played a significant role in the Civil War. In fact, the city of New Orleans alone recruited almost 800 Spanish soldiers. An Alabama regiment, called the Spanish Guard, only contained men with Spanish last names. Both Alabama’s 55th Infantry and Florida’s 2nd Infantry are recognized as having a number of Hispanic soldiers. It was difficult to determine exactly how many Hispanics fought in the Civil War. I checked many websites to learn this. The best estimate I can give is over 13,000 Hispanic soldiers fought for both the North and South, although the majority fought for the South.
Tuesday, the NHL, canceled its entire preseason. This happened just a day before negotiations were made to end the lockout. NHL owners locked out the players September 16th when the bargaining agreement expired. All exhibition games, scheduled in September, have been canceled. The regular season will begin on October 11th.
This event kind of has to do with how African Americans kind of went on their own "strike" for equal rights. They so desperately wanted equal rights that they went on, in a sense, their own strike. This is the same as the NHL players. They went on their own strike (or in this case a lockout) because their agreement expired.
This article is about how the NHL players are very angry with the organization cancelling their preseason games. Since the NHL Lockout has started, hockey fans have been waiting for them to reach a deal, but it seems that may not be happening anytime soon. Due to the fact that NHL players have refused to reach an agreement, two weeks of preseason games were cancelled. Even though many players knew this was going to happen, they are still upset because hockey is a major part of their life and they live to play hockey. NHL players aren’t only feeling bad for themselves, but they feel bad for the fans. They know the fans have been waiting for NHL to start and now it might not even happen. This relates to what we learned about the West in history class. In a way this is like when the Native Americans were pushed off their own land. At first the United States promised them a portion of the land, but eventually they even just pushed them off the land they were promised. This upset the Indians a lot because they now had almost nowhere to go and live.
One thing that would relate to culture is how the Native Americans were very nomadic. They traveled where ever the buffalo went. A second thing that relates to culture is how the KKK was a very viscious group during the time period. They would whip, lynch, and burn crosses.
This artical talked about how racial discrimination is still happening today. Everywhere you go there is racsit things happening. Shows street gangs and other things.
This relates to social studies because racial stuff was happening all the time back than. people weerent okay with black people being free. All everything was talked about back than was racsim. It is in our world today and it seems that it wont be going away anytime soon.
The massacre that happened in Aurora, Colorado when a man named James Holmes killed many innocent people in a theater while they were watching the new Batman movie.

-this article is about what people prefer, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. Americans still like to say Merry Christmas. 56 % of North easterners and 57% of West Coasters said "Merry Christmas" was their greeting of choice. Older generations were also more possible to choose "Merry Christmas," while 50% of people ages 18-30 favored to make merry with "Happy Holiday. Article also stated that "Americans over 65 overwhelming chose "Merry Christmas" over "Happy Holidays," 74% to 22%. In the Midwest, 70% chose "Merry Christmas," and in the South 69% felt the same.
- How this article relates to what we have learned in class is that many people don't like to change the way they are. Americans had a name for this sort of person. Conservatives were White Southerners who used to be powerful and were opposed to changes happening in the South. They were supported by fellow Southerners and it was a common Southern belief. Us Americans are used to saying Merry Christmas just like the white southerners liked and where used to the power they had.
Blog post #4 Nick Razzi Article http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2012/07/27/chick-fil-as-controversial-gay-marriage-beef
The article I have chosen talks about how the president of Chick-fil-A,Dan Cathy, shared his opinion about the topic of gay marriage and how he is against it. It also talks about how people are refusing to eat at their establishments because they believe that it is fine to have gay marriage. It then goes on to say how the Jim Henson Co. which provided Muppet toys for Chick-fil-A, had closed their business with Chick-fil-A. Then it states that the mayor of Chicago refused to continue the opening of a Chick-fil-A in Chicago. The words he had used were “the Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago’s values”.
The way that this connects to what we are learning in class is. It is showing an example of discrimination towards the gay populace like the way that the president of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, said that he does not like the thought of gay marriage. Also it shows a type of discrimination in the way that Chicago refuses to build a Chick-fil-A there, because of what the president of Chick-fil-A stated in an interview. These two things are very close to the way that it was for the immigrants from the great migration. Natives of America from this time discriminated against the immigrants
My article was on Caterpillar fungi that have been shown that could have anti-inflammatory benefits. A fungus attaches itself to moth larva and it infects and consumes it from inside. It takes over its brain and makes young caterpillars shift to a position in which the fungus can grow again. It is said that the fungus can help cure cancer, diabetes, and more. The caterpillars sell up to $50,000 per pound. Patients who still use the traditional medical practice brew the infected caterpillar in tea or eat it raw to help cure them. Although some fungi are deadly for you this kind helps people. This relates to when the men in trenches would get fungus infections from being in the cold, wet, and muddy trenches with bare feet. Even though this article talked about a good type of fungus it reminded me of the troubles with fungi soldiers had when they were in the trenches Kayla Leidy
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says now are the time to make sure you're protected from the flu because flu season is coming. The agency says flu season is ramping up early this year. According to CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden, H3N2 is the predominant strain this year. This could be a bad flu year," Frieden said. "But this year's vaccine is an excellent match with the influenza that's circulating." About 123 million doses of the vaccine have already been distributed to health care providers, and about 112 million people have already been vaccinated. Among doctors, nurses and pharmacists, about 80% to 90% have already been vaccinated. Ok so all this relates to World War 1 how the Germans and the French had their trenches. Lot of them soldiers got sick and did not have the right supplies like we do treat what the problem is. In the trenches there would be mud, rats, poison gas, lots of bacteria, cold, wet, infections spread from wounds. The soldiers had lots of problems that they could not take care of if something happened, the soldier would get shot or taken to the hospital. In the hospitals they did not have lots supplies to cure a person. So in World War 1 they did not have all this technology like we so lots of people died because they could not care of themselves.
On Saturday afternoon Kansas City Chief's player Jovan Belcher committed suicide after killing his girlfriend. He did this after thanking his coach and his manager for all they have done for him. Nobody has a final reason on why Belcher did it, but him and his girlfriend have been arguing recently. The death of Jovan has affected the team very strongly, but although he died, they continued to play in honor of him yesterday. They held a moment of silence before the game as well. Earlier this year they created a phone service that can connect the coaches and the players to help with all their emotional issues so things like this doesn't happen.
This connects to World War I because soldiers were forced into war after graduating. Most soldiers didn't actually want to be involved in the war, so some of them would let themselves die. Also if others were suffering, other troops from their country would shoot them and put them out of their misery.
This article was about West Nile infections. West Nile is a disease that is transmitted to people or other animals by mosquitoes. West nile is really affecting the whole intire U.S population. West nile is getting so bad that it has reached a count of 5,245 bpeople that had it with alittle over 200 that had died from it. This article about West Nile that i read relates to trench warfare. Thsi relate to the trench warfare because that trenches that they fought in were filty and were also filled with rats and people. This caused a lot of the soldiers to become sick and catch diesease that were from the rat that lived in the trenches with them or the other soldier that got ill.
In this article it talks about how gays are fighting for the rights to marry in America. And how government keeps saying no, but some states are starting to vote yes to gay marriage. This is a lot like the progressive era. During this era Women had gained the rights to vote. Alcohol was illegalized and there were many social improvements. This connects to gay marriage because the nation is trying to "progress" and give them the same rights as straight people.
The Germans have created a website of their cultural history. The website is called the “German Digital Library.” On this website you can find out about a lot of Germanys history and culture that has been documented. It ranges from artifacts to documents and to recent events that are going on today. The project was started to help Germany be recognized by many people who don’t know Germany’s history. The system it’s using is Google, to be specific: The program is Google Cultural Institute.
This is just like World War 1 and trench warfare. The Germans were in World War 1, which implemented trench warfare into play. These 2 subjects are related to each other because Germany wanted to implement a new way for people to learn of Germanys greatness in their history. And with their greatness comes the failures of new implements in their lifestyle, kind of like the holocaust.
This article is about college football and that they are cutting a whole bunch of teams from being able to play in bowl games. Meanwhile, Americans are so desperate for college football that they will attend something called the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl. For vegans, there's the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Sometimes, it seems the NCAA sits around and looks for ways to satirize itself.
This relates to what we are learning or learned in our social studies class because when we learned about when the government tried to hide the horrors of world war one. That is ust like this because they ar trying to make the people happy by making up new bowls so thy can go watch their favorite teams.
http://www.internations.org/magazine/international-business-issues-15385 Cultural problems around the world deal with problems like language issues. The language of your presentation may not be the language listeners understand, you may be talking in a foreign language yourself. People need to talk slowly so a translatter can continue or learn to speak another language since many people may not know how to speak in another language. This relates to WWI for the fact that we had trouble understanding the fact of war between Germany. I mean that we didn't understand their innitial part in the war. Near the beginning of the war we fought them before we understtod why they even began. We just joined without considering their perspective.
California's wealth lies in the diversity of it's land and people. California's cultural heritage is from over 300 indigneous tribal groups and explorers and immigrants from many continents seeking a new life. All of the people brought all of their skills and dreams. Newcomers constructed railroads, devoloped cities, harvested field, assembled ships, planes and computers. California is famous for a lot of things such as movies, the walk of fame, Hollywood etc.
This article relates to when the Rockefeller made oil and then lots of people started inventing things. The cities are much better today and so are the towns. If those people didn't invent those things our towns and cities would still be in those terrible conditions.

ReplyDeleteIn this article it talks about how gays are fighting for the rights to marry in America.

ReplyDeleteThe Germans have created a website of their cultural history.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about college football and that they are cutting a whole bunch of teams from being able to play in bowl games.

ReplyDeleteCultural problems around the world deal with problems like language issues.

ReplyDeleteCalifornia's wealth lies in the diversity of it's land and people.
