About two or three weeks ago a young, mentally challenged, Christian girl was accused of insulting Islams. Today a Pakistani judge has let her go. She's only 14 years old suffering from a mental illness and angry mob of people went to a police station. They were saying that she was burning pages of Koran. This act is punishable in Pakistan. This event is similar to President Lincoln's Plan after the Civil War. He showed the blacks and the rebels some softness. Just like President Lincoln, the Pakistani judge showed the girl and her family some softness by letting her go.
About a week ago on the aniversary of September 11th, a U.S. embassador and 3 others were murdered by a group of locals in a city in Lybia. The mob claims the reason for the murders were because of an American movie called "The innocence of Muslims" which outraged the mob. This is alot like the assassination of Abraham Licoln, because in both someone in government was murdered. And in both the murderer/s were offended or angry for a personal reason (one being the loss of the civil war and the other of the movie that offended their religion).
Right now the country is questioning whether or not president Obama can fix our relations with the Middle East. Even though it really isn't all on president Obama. This is like when people questioned whether president Lincoln would be able to fix the relations between the north and the south. Although it wasn't all up to Lincoln people made it seem like it was.
My article was about how the Muslim protesters are mad at the United States. Protesters are mad over a film that was made mocking Mohammad. They saw that as an attack on the Muslim religion. Police fired a shot attempting to break up a crowd. The crowd was burning US flags and chanting “Death to America”. Protesters also set fire to many cars and shops and threw stones at police. There were many attacks by Muslims at the United States. Three people were killed in an attack in Benghazi. One protester states that they will defend their prophet until they have blood across their bodies and will not let anyone insult him.
This relates to how the freedmen were attacked physically and mentally. The Klu Klux Klan hated the slaves and abused them. The KKK’s set fire to crosses to warn the slaves. People would often start riots because they didn’t want blacks to be freed. Freedmen were killed during the riots.
The subject has come up between Russia and the United States concerning the nuclear weapons cooperation agreement. It’s going to be expiring next year and has to hopefully be renewed or create a new one considering that Russia and the United States don’t want to have a nuclear war. The Russian president Vladimir Putin and the United States President want to create a new CTR agreement. CTR stands for Cooperative Threat Reduction, which helps with improving nuclear security. Just because the agreement ends next year, it doesn’t mean Russia and the United States should not still work on a new agreement. This relates to how the African Americans equal rights were being thrown away when segregation started between the African Americans and the whites. The African Americans were obtaining equal rights with the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, but then the whites, who did not care for the African Americans, started to complain and ask for segregation between the whites and the African Americans.
This article is about how the economy in china is slowly going downhill and how it is affecting Americans. If it isn’t obvious, china makes most of Americas toys, games, everything! So with their economy getting bad we are losing products too. This means a ton of jobs are being lost over in china. But part of the reason china’s economy is getting worse is because the amount of American exports to china have decreased. This alone has contributed to a loss of almost 40,000 jobs for Americans. China was also one the bigger buyers of American goods so with the economy slowing down for them, it will slow down our economy too. This connects to when the reconstruction time happened. They had to create a ton of jobs for all the freedmen they now had. Just like now due to china’s economy fall and our exporters losing jobs, we have to now come up with a way to create jobs for all the people that were part of the exporting businesses.
The election is here and Obama / Romney are going over their final ideas for foreign policies. There are two foreign policies that both Obama and Romney agree with, Iran and Afghanistan. They both agree that we will have all of our troops out of Afghanistan by 2014, and we will prevent the Iranians from creating or acquiring nuclear weapons. For the future of our military, Romney plans to increase Navy shipbuilding but with Obama's budget cuts, if he becomes president it will delay shipbuilding. If Romney becomes president he will label China as a currency manipulator and apply tariffs if they refuse to stop. If Obama becomes president he will just continue to let China do what they are doing. This relates to us learning about the Progressive Era. During the Progressive Era the people were faced with many problems and had to find solutions for it. For example, nature, food products, alcoholism etc. This article relates to it because we are faced with problems now, and whoever becomes president they will have to figure out ways to fix it. So, before anybody votes Romney and Obama they have to discuss how they plan to fix it, and hopefully the United States chooses which one is better for us.
China is also in an economic state of crisis like we are. They have a better economy then us however the difference between the rich and the poor in China is astounding. The president Hu Jintao trued his best to fix it over the years however weakened it to a lesser level. This fact reminds me of a time when our economy was "down the drain" like it was during the Progressive Era. We as Americans tried our best in order to rebuild it from the ground up. Even now it is still in ruin. We must find a way like China must in order for our economy to survive.
China is an economic crisis. Not that they haven't inproved they just are in a worse spot then they were. Hu Jintao who is now president of China has fixed it from what it once was. However the gap between the rich and the poor is now farther apart then it ever was before. There was a time when our economy was as you say "down the drain" back in the Progressive Era. We as Americans tried everything we could think of to get it back in place. But now we are back in that situation again. We must do like CHina but fix the problem of the gap.
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) invited representatives from other countries to observe our recent presidential election. Election officials from over 60 different countries participated in this event. Some of the countries were Indonesia, Russia, Yemen, and Nigeria.
These representatives were very impressed with the trust and faith the U.S. voters had with the voting process. The integrity of the voting officials surprised them as well. When the voting is done, the officials are trusted not to do anything illegal with any excess ballots. Some officials indicated that their ballots would be burned while other countries would hammer a spike through them so they could not be used.
Many officials indicated their police needed to be present to keep peace during the election while we simply use volunteers. The process is much more advanced than most countries. In Gambia, each voter is given a marble to drop in a jar. The officials listen very closely to make sure only one marble is dropped in. If they think they hear more than one marble drop, they may bring in the police.
While all the representatives would like to incorporate our system, most indicated this process would not work in their country because they don’t have the same level of trust in their election processes and officials. In class we learned about political corruption, like bribery, that these countries are still dealing with. We are also learning about the 19th Amendment of the Constitution which gave women the right to vote. It is really hard to believe that only 92 years ago, women couldn’t vote in the U.S.
A couple years ago Michael P. Noonan had Thanksgiving in a small Iraqi base in Western Ninewa, Province. Due to this, he thinks we should give thanks to many things. As americans, we should be very thankful to live in a country where violence isn't normal when resolving political differences. Michael believes we should also thank all the men and women of the armed forces for risking their lives for ours.
This article on Michael P. Noonan relates to the Spanish-American war. The Spanish-American war was a war in the late 1800s in Cuba and the Philippines. The war involved, Cuba, Spain and America. It was fought because the U.S.S Maine exploded and there was much greed for resources. The article relates to the war because , it shows how people were fighting back then, and how people are still fighting for us today. Also both things show people the U.S as being strong.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-20565193 North Korea announced Saturday that it would attempt to launch a long-range rocket in mid-December, a defiant move just eight months after a failed April attempt was widely condemned as a violation of a United Nations ban against developing its nuclear and missile programs. Following North Korea's announcement, the U.S. State Department made a similar statement it made in April calling the attempt "highly provocative." "A North Korean 'satellite' launch would be a highly provocative act that threatens peace and security in the region," Victoria Nuland, a State Department spokesman said in a statement. The launch, set for Dec. 10 to 22, is likely to heighten already strained tensions with Washington and Seoul as the United States prepares for Barack Obama's second term as U.S. president and South Korea holds its own presidential election on Dec. 19. This article relates to the great war because it involves foreign policy. In the great war, also known as world war one, america needed to find allies so they wouldnt get dominated by the other countries. the United states needed foreign policy in the great war.
China's economy is slowing down. An official PMI survey of China's non-manufacturing sectors ticked up from 55.6 in November to 55.5 in October. Growth in air and rail transport and food and beverages both slowed. China's annual economic growth dipped to 7.4 percent in the third quarter, slowing for 7 quarters in a row and leaving the economy on course for its worse showing. This is similar to the reconstruction era since we had to find jobs for all of the freedmen. We also had to pay to get buildings rebuilt and we didn't have tons of money
1) the article that i read discussed how we may be on the verge of world war 3. the middle east has had many problems in the last couple of years. the article says that Israel and Hamas have been in a massive dispute for the last couple of years and Iran has been aiding Hamas by giving them advanced technology. Israel is complaining and getting Iran involved. if they were to go to war then America would be forced to step in because they are Israels allies. when America jumps in, then all the other countries will join and it will be come all out war. thus beginning world war 3
2) this relates to history because we are learning about world war 1 and soon to be learning about world war 2. the Germany have been the cause in both the previous world wars. and America has been dragged in. in world war 1 they got involved when France started losing and in world war 2 they got involved after pearl harbor. if there is a world war 3 i would like to see america stay out out of it (even though they obviously wont).
It is believed that Syrian’s President Bashar al-Assad’s regime is working with chemicals that can be used as weapons against the rebels. President Obama has specifically stated that the use of chemicals in their civil war will not be tolerated. Any use of chemical weapons is crossing a line and there will be consequences. The Syrian Foreign Ministry denies these allegations. However, intelligence has been obtained that indicates Syrian forces are mixing chemicals that produce sarin gas. This gas can be put in artillery shells to be used in combat situations. The evidence suggests that the regime may be feeling desperate which could lead to desperate actions, including chemical warfare. President Obama indicated the world is watching and that we will provide humanitarian support and will continue to back ‘legitimate aspirations.’
We are currently learning about World War I and trench warfare. During WWI, chemical warfare was also used. They developed deadly chemicals that were invisible and odorless. According to statistics, approximately 83,000 people died as a result of chemical warfare during WWI. Not only does chemical warfare kill people, but it also damages the environment which could impact the ability to farm the land and raise livestock.
-This article states that there was much bloodshed in Iraq in the war. Some take sides but many died on both sides. The article also states that on Dec. 15, 2011, the American military officially ended its mission in Iraq, one that took the lives of 4,487 service members, with another 32,226 injured in action; more than one million service members attended in Iraq during the progress of the battle. The closing ceremony in Baghdad sounded an undefined declare for a war that was started to free Iraq of weapons of mass destruction it didn’t have. It finished without the generous, enduring American military existence for which many officers had wished, and with the country fronting a political disaster. -This can be compared to WW1. The war in Iraq did not have to happen because the Iraqis did not have the weapons. WW1 started because a prince was killed between 2 countries. These 2 countries soon became many more. Even people on a different continent were involved. In both of these wars, someone was taken advantage of; either to “flex a muscle” or go to war under false pretenses.
