    1. Hurricane Isaac is more powerful than a lot of people think. Even though it only registered in on the Richter scale as a category one hurricane it cost the U.S. 2 billion dollars in damage. That is a lot of power for a category one hurricane. Also it left thousands homeless and some dead. This is one of the worst hurricanes the U.S. has seen in a while.

    2. This is just like the Civil war in that they both caused a lot of destruction and chaos. Also just like the civil war we have to rebuild all of the damages and help each other, like during the reconstruction times.

  4. Hurricane Isaac has left lots of people without power for days. The people being affected are trying to live their lives as they normally would. Prayers are being said to the people affected. Bridges, Buildings etc. are being destroyed. There's lots of flooding and rain going on. Once the storm passes people will be rebuilding buildings and whatever is destroyed. People will be calling each other to make sure their safe.

Hurricane Isaac is just like the Civil War. Everyone was trying to win for their side. People were dying and trying to survive. Family's of the soldiers were praying that their son, father, or husband was going to make it. Everyone who fought in the Civil War had to be willing to fight for their country. The soldiers fought in any type of weather. They never gave up.

  5. This article covers the introduction of the MTV Video Music Awards that were held live Thursday night, at 8pm. It talks about Kevin Hart, host of the award show and comedian, in his welcoming 'rant'. He talks about the mistakes people have made even though it probably wasn't suitable to be said by a host. He says though that the show is live, and no one can stop him. He ends his speech with a stage dive.

I think Kevin talking about how no one can stop him relates to the Revolutionary War because America didn't take no for an answer. We didn't care about the people who thought it was a bad idea and we didn't care about the British getting mad. Same thing with Kevin while ranting.

Mitt Romdey was being very mean apperently to Obama when a debate came up on televesion. He wouldnt give Obama a chance to speak and he only said bad things toward Obama. To me that isnt a fair man to his oppisite political party. He had no right to do that and he only made things worse.
This relates to old times because back in the day when elections were going on people were saying bad things back and forth like it was normal. They planned on winning these elections were to trash their oppisite party. This happenend all the time back in the day.

Congressman Edward Markey wants the 4th amendment to be updated to the 21st century after finding out that law enforcement was taking cell phone information without a warrant. He wants to update this law to protect the people of America from being controlled and abused by the government.
This is like how the government made the 13-15 amendments to protect the freedmen from the white people in the south. By giving them basic rights and the right to vote after freeing them from slavery.

  8. My article is about the NHL lockout. What seemed for the NHL has now become reality. The league canceled the first two weeks of regular season on Thursday, the second time games have been lost because of a lockout in seven years. The initial announcement was made in a two-paragraph statement from the league. It isn't clear if those games will be made up, allowing for a complete 82-game regular season, if a deal can be struck soon with the locked out players. Unable to work out how to split up $3 billion in hockey-related revenues with the players' association, the NHL wiped out 82 games from Oct. 11 through Oct. 24 - beginning with four next Thursday, which would have been the league's opening night. The NHL was extremely disappointed to have to make today's announcement, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement. ''The game deserves better, the fans deserve better, and the people who derive income from their connection to the NHL deserve better. Also the team owners are making 51% of the revenue and the players are making 49%, the players want more but the owners want more to so they can’t come to an agreement on this lockout. This relates to class by how the Americans would take the natives land. The Americans did not like how natives had buffalo and were moving and did not stay in one place like farmers did. So the Americans took the natives land and claimed it was theirs, then the Americans gave the natives some land but as much as the natives wanted it was bad land they got to the natives did not really enjoy it. so this is how the NHL lockout and what the Americans did to natives are related.

Who would have thought that Big Bird would be brought into debate in Denver?
Half hour in to discussion between Obama and mit Romney, mit had said that he was considering that he would cut what he thought was dumb or non- essential items in the budget, including cuts to pbs.

"I'm sorry Jim. I'm gonna stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm gonna stop other things," Romney said. "I like PBS, I like Big Bird, I actually like you too."

My article was on a man who was shot and killed during an Afghanistan War. They named a Navy ship after him because he was the first American awarded the Medal of Honor during the War. The Navy Ship is named the USS Michael Murphy. Michael Murphy left a protected position to go to a clearing where he was exposed to gunfire to contact Bagram Airfield for backup. He was killed when trying to get contact with Bagram Airfield. Sixteen of his rescuers were killed when their helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade. Michael Murphy wasn’t the only one who had something named after him because of his actions. His father Daniel Murphy had a park in Long Island named after him. This relates to the Native Americans having things named after them like sports teams. For both the natives and Michael Murphy had things named after them for the things they did and how brave they both were.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in mid 1870s. This allowed people over long distances to communicate more easily. People no longer had to write letters or translate Morse code to send telegrams. The transatlantic cable expanded the ability to communicate over the Atlantic Ocean. During this time, the camera was also invented allowing people to take photos of memorable events. In addition, Henry Ford also invented the car which allowed people to travel over longer distances then they could by horse and carriage. All these inventions made the culture much more social.
Today, the telephone technology has expanded greatly. We no longer have to rely on wires and cables for communication. We can now use cellular phones to make local or foreign calls. We can also use phones to take photos. People can use Face Time to see each other over the telephone. Social interaction has become so much easier. This article has taken telephone technology to a whole new level. Smart phones can actually be used to park a car. Drivers can pull into a mall parking lot and hit a ‘Park’ button. Not only that, the car will pick you up when you are done. Nissan thinks this technology can be available as early as 2015. I wonder what Henry Ford would think of this…

In this article Mitt Romney and Barack Obamah are in a dabate against each other. They are going at it saying mean things back and fourth. Romney had so many thing to say and never gave Obamah time to speak. He was saying really harsh and rude things. During the dabate they talked bout what they will do for the country, weather it was political or eviormental it was spoken of during the debate. This relates to something i have learned in a social studies class over the years because there were debates that took place all throughtout history. Some ofthe most important ones were close and not to close, but to our nation they are all the same.I think that in my opinion Mitt Romneydid a btter job during the first debate because he verbaly attacked Obamah, but Obamah will do better next time. I also hope the Obamah wins the election.

Mrs. Miller created a Facebook page soon after the business was started. Cake orders went from 2-3 a weekend to 6-10 a weekend. Facebook has now created a way to buy things right from the facebook page. Due to this, Mandies business has become very succesful. Social Networking shows how commucating has changed from the past and how much easier it is to use.
    2) This article about commuticating on social networking realtes to communicating in the past. In The late 1800's the Transatlantic cable was created. This was a a cable that layed under the ocean, so that telegraph messages could go back and forth between North America and Europe. Also the Telephone was invented. This was a machine that allowed people to talk through a speaker from different locations. Lastly the typewriter was invented. The typewriter was a machine that typed up your letters by pushing buttons in, instead of hand writing them. These were three ways of communicating in the late 1800's and the new Facebook invention of selling things on the website shows how different commucation has changed.

This computer was introduced on Thursday and it is said that it will sell for $249. This computer will also have only one operating system which will revolve around Google Chrome. Keep in mind that this computer will have no hard drive so it functions on an internet connection to get information and applications stored at Google data bases.
The release of this new laptop is sort of like the release of the new machines that were released in the 1800s, like the Transatlantic cable. The Transatlantic cable made it easier to communicate with other people just like how the new laptop is going to make it easier to communicate with other people. This is because if you want to reach a social media website, its going to be way faster because you are running off of one central server.

The Quadski is a combination of a jet ski and a quad, The Quadski is a 4-stoke, quad-bike that converts to a jet ski. Alan Gibbs helped invent this new vehicle. It can go 45 miles per hour on both land and water, which isn’t quite what you can see on some ATVs, but still good, and takes four seconds to switch between the sea and the earth. Also pre-orders will open soon at the price of $40,000. The Quadski off-road vehicle can make transitions between land and water. The Quadski technologies include 60 patents. Far from just a toy, Gibbs sees the rescue and emergency services potential of the Quadski. The invention of the Quadski reminds me of other inventions I learned about in history class. We learned about many inventions in history this chapter. For example the invention of the rail road helped America greatly, especially through westward expansion.

    1) In the article it talks about how they are looking for new ways to improve transportation in a more efficient way that is better for the environment. It talked about using solar power to work machines that didn't move too often and that would collect a lot of solar energy during the days. The article also discussed using electric to power bigger machines like cars and boats. Instead of using costly and hard to find gas, why not use electricity? It also put other resources in the conversation like algae and ethanol. These are renewable resources that would make everything cheaper.
    2) I connect this to social studies and new better items like the camera and the car. These items connected the east and the west and make the 2 unite at a new social level even though they were a couple hundred miles away. The article talks about how the technology improves the environment and makes the USA a better area. The new inventions in the late 1800s to early 1900 brought the social classes closer. The car was a toy for the rich, but then Henry Ford used the assembly line and the car was a usable item for all.

Many people and groups are getting together and raising funds to help out areas where most of the damage happened. ABC raised 17millions dollars to help people out. Also rich people like Mark Cuban, Lady Gaga, and Barbara Walters put money toward the cause. Also the Salvation Army put money and donations towards the cause. This relates to the Civil War and how afterwards people were getting together and trying to fix America. It was a good time before anything got better in the south but with great leadership and people willing to help and change it eventually got done.

AHAT stands for All Hiphop All the Time; AHAT is a rap battle league based in Las Vegas, Nevada. AHAT 46 will be on November 11th including battles between "Juice" and "Smoov", "TheDeadMan" and "Konflict", "C.B." and "Cocky". A rap battle is between two rappers who freestyle back and forth mainly insulting the other person, bragging, calling the other person out, ect. This reminds me of the recent Presidential Debates between President Barrack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. In the debates they went back and forth about what the other person hasnt/wont/cant do for the country and how they're better for the job of President. I believe rap battles and debates are very similar.

  31. This article was about Jared Loughner life sentence. Last year in June Loughner brought a gun to the Tucson plaza and shot about 20 people. He killed 6 of them. Among the wounded was a former congressman. It was a meet and greet for the congresswoman that Loughner interrupted with his attack. On Thursday November 8th, he was given a life sentence without parole for his Tucson shooting. Although he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, he knew the consequences and even looked up the death penalty before.
This relates to the shooting of Abraham Lincoln. He was a very important person just like Gifford the congresswoman. Lincoln was shot unexpectedly at ford’s theatre just like the Tucson shooting happened very unexpectantly at the meet and greet. Although the congresswoman wasn’t killed, it was still a scary experience that caused great pain and she even had to resign from congress to get better. It caused great panic like in Lincolns assassination.

These new devices are starting at $199. These new Chromebooks are said to be good but not great. They had a bumpy start in the beginning but they are popular enough to be selling in some retailers such as Best Buy. Some say that they can get more done on the Chromebook than they can on their I-Pad. In fact they are even reaching for their Chromebook more than their I-Pad.

They still haven’t found the guy who did it although they are getting close. The kids who got out alive claimed that they heard loud shots and then were rushed into the corners of their classrooms by teachers. They were all crying and shaking, including the teachers. This shooting is said to be the second deadliest, after the Virginia Tech Massacre that happened in 2007.
It relates to American history because of the assassinations that happened. They were completely unexpected, in places that were thought to be safe. I did my article on the Connecticut shooting that happened last Friday. Adam Lanza went on a shooting rampage that claimed that lives of 26 people plus himself and his mom. Adam was mentally unstable and a straight A student just like James Holmes the Colorado theater shooter was. Adam had a syndrome called Asperger syndrome. People who have the syndrome are often bullied at school or work. Often times they suffer from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Adam had a sudden outburst that took his life and many others. Adam’s syndrome made it hard for him to understand that what he did was wrong and illegal. This relates to WW1 because the soldiers often suffered from mental problems because of what they had to face in war. Soldiers would become suicidal and depressed because they were forced to kill others for long periods of time.

    1. Last Friday a horrible tragedy not only effected Newtown, Connecticut, but it made people realize how thankful they are for their family. This tragedy was the Newtown massacre.
During the first hour or so during school, a man dressed in all black with a military vest walked in with a well loaded gun and opened fire. This left the whole nation distraught because of how many young kids had lost their lives. Not much time had passed before 26 people were killed. The identified shooter is Adam Lanza, a 20 year old, who is said to have killed himself after he killed the kids and some of the faculty. It is said that he also killed his own mother and left her body in a Newtown residence.
Students can describe being taken into closets and bathrooms when the first shot was fired. One teacher read a story to her students to keep them calm. At the same time a parent was at the school and when the first shot rang out she ducked under the table and called 911. As a result of this tragedy schools are buckling down and reviewing their safety procedure.
This event relates to the shooting of President Lincoln. After he was shot, while watching a film, the whole nation was scared because he was their president.

Tragedy struck Friday, December 14th in Newtown, Connecticut. Kids at Shady Hook Elementary School weren't expecting to leave that day in terror, or watch their friends die. Shooter Adam Lanza entered Shady Hook early Friday morning and killed 20 children and 8 adults. This tragedy has impacted our country in such a horrible way. We are now reviewing gun control laws to try and prevent this. This is the worst shooting in years. This all began with an argument with the principal after he killed his own mother. After killing all the children and staff and hearing law enforcement was on its way, he shot himself.

This connects to us learning about World War I. In World War I Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. This caused chaos because it angered the Central Powers and caused more fighting during the war. Allies were definite and it was now a fight to the finish. This assassination really hurt Austria-Hungary and it not only angered them but it upset them. This is like the Sandy Hook shooting because it upset the nation as well.

-This article recalls a sad time in Connecticut. A gun man entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and chose 2 classrooms to shoot and kill both teachers and students. All of the targets had been shot and most were gone, and the shooter, known as Adam Lanza, had committed suicide. The children that were killed were believed to be 5 to 10 years old. On his way in he had shot the principal, and the psychologist. Adam Lanza only left 1 survivor that he had shot at. Everyone had heard the gunshots and quickly hid but sadly Lanza came into some darkened rooms. The gunman did not just shoot the school. He had also visited his mother and shot her too.
-How this connects to the WW1 is that when Germany started encouraging Mexico to attack the USA to gain back land, the Americans were afraid that a revolt could happen on USA soil and a lot of people (civilians and soldiers) could be hurt. When this shooting happened, everyone was scared and worried.

My article is about the recent school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. This article is about a man who broke into Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, December 14th, armed and killed 28 people, 20 of which were children attending school all around the age of 6 years old. This is a devastating situation where people were killed for no reason. I am relating this article to trench warfare because in trench warfare nothing really got accomplished the two sides just fought there for days just shooting each other and being held captive in there trench. I related these two because both of them killed a lot of innocent people and killing the people got them nowhere because in the trench warfare nobody won at the end and in the school shooting the man who cause it all committed suicide. They can try and try to figure out why this young man did this but nobody will ever really know. We will hear of this senseless killing throughout the future to eventually become history.

  45. There was a shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school on Friday December 14. Adam Lanza, a 20 year old, was the shooter. He killed 20 students and 6 teachers, and he also killed himself. The school appeared secure, it's entrance monitored by closed-circuit camera and opened only when employees in the main office buzzed somebody in. But Lanza wasted no time, breaking through the window and opening the door. Then gunshots rang out, someone turned the loudspeaker on so everyone in the building could hear what was happening in the office. Whoever did that saved a lot of people. Everyone in the school was listening to the terror that was transpiring. In a classroom, teacher Kaitlin Roig heard the shots and barricaded her 15 students into a tiny bathroom, sitting one of them on top of the toilet. She pulled a bookshelf across the door and locked it. She told the kids to be "absolutely quiet. She said, “There are bad guys out there now. We need to wait for the good guys,'" she told ABC News “The kids were being so good," she said. "They asked, 'Can we go see if anyone is out there?' 'I just want Christmas. I don't want to die. I just want to have Christmas.” She said, 'You're going to have Christmas and Hanukkah.'" This relates to history because in World War 1, the trench warfare, the soldiers would hide in trenches and hope not to die like the kids; some of the soldiers wanted to return home and see their family just like the kids and celebrate the holiday’s safe at home.
